Artnet's dynamic initiative Africa Present emphasizes the company's long-term investment into the historically underrepresented market of Contemporary African Art. Using the reach, contacts, and capabilities of a global art marketplace, the department will raise awareness about contemporary art from the African continent.
As part of the initiative, Artnet Galleries offers a dedicated online space to galleries who represent African artists. Following a successful first sale, Artnet Auctions launched the second sale in the series on August 29, 2021. The auction was divided into three collecting categories, “Meet,” – which was presented in partnership with Latitudes, an online destination to explore contemporary art from Africa - “Support,” and “Invest,” in order to engage our audience in a dialogue that ranges from brand-new discoveries to treasures of long-established stars.
