About This Lot
Born in 1934 in Accra, Ghana, Ablade Glover is one of the most sought-after figures in the West African art scene. Trained in his native Ghana, he went on to study textile design at London's Central School of Art and Design (1959-1962) and later on received a scholarship to study at the University of Newcastle. It was in Newcastle that he started exploring his signature style and technique, which consists of painting with a palette knife rather than utilizing traditional brushstrokes. Later in his life, Glover also studied at Kent State University and completed his Doctor of Philosophy at the Ohio State University in the United States. Upon his return to Ghana, he practiced as an artist while teaching at local universities. Rewarded on many occasions for his artistic endeavors and tutorship, he was also honored with the distinguished alumni award from the African-American Institute in New York City. His works are featured in many prominent private and public collections, such as the Imperial Palace of Japan, the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
