About This Lot

New York-based Paul Mogensen pushes the boundaries of his Minimalist title by creating works that are full of movement rather than simply two-dimensional. The artist uses ancient mathematical theories to create his colorful sequences, making his work less geometric and more iterative than his contemporaries. Mogensen was born in Los Angeles in 1941. He studied at Yale Norfolk School of Art in Connecticut and graduated from University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1963. He is in public collections across America, including Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Museum of Modern Art, New York; High Museum of Art, Atlanta; Walker Art Center, Minnesota. Mogensen continues to live and work in New York.
