1. What types of artworks and objects can I find in the Price Database?

    The Price Database covers works of Fine Art, Design, and Decorative Art:
    Fine Art includes original paintings, sculptures, works on paper, photographs, prints and multiples, and installations
    Design includes 20th- and 21st-century Design objects with an artist and/or maker
    Decorative Art includes furniture, silver, porcelain, ceramics, glass, rugs, carpets, clocks, books, jewelry, watches, and more
    All lots in the Price Database Fine Art and Design must have the following minimum estimates to be included:
    US$500: Original paintings, sculptures, works on paper, photographs, prints and multiples, installations with a known artist, and Contemporary mixed artist portfolios
    US$2,000: Artists with a qualified name, or artists known only by their initials, nationality, or period; artists known as Master or Monogrammist, artists known only by first or last name (for whom the full name cannot be identified), and anonymous artists
    All lots in the Price Database Decorative Art must have must have the following minimum estimates to be included:
    US$500: Furniture, silver, porcelain, ceramics, glass, rugs, carpets, clocks, books, jewelry, watches, and other Decorative Art objects.

2. How do I know which artists or objects are included in the Price Database?

    Before you subscribe, you can check to see if the Price Database has auction records for the artist(s) you are looking for. Simply type the artist's name in the search bar, or in the artist directory. Past auction results for your artist will appear in your search results on the artist page, allowing you to see the available information even before you subscribe.

    Subscribers to the Price Database can sort by artist name, auction house, date, title, category, object type, size, medium, sale date, and more.

3. Do you cover international auctions in the Price Database?

    Yes. The Price Database includes sales from hundreds of auction houses, from countries all over the world.

4. I am looking for historical data; would a subscription to the Price Database be useful to me?

    Yes, we have auction records dating back to 1985.

5. I am looking for a piece in an upcoming sale; can I find it in the Price Database?

    Upcoming auctions are included in the Price Database. Search results are displayed by default with the most recent auction lots at the top of your results; you also have the option to sort results by sale date, work date, or price.

6. How can the Price Database help me buy and sell artworks?

    You cannot buy and sell artworks directly through the Price Database. Rather, the database serves as an indispensable tool to educate and assist you in making informed decisions when buying or selling artworks. The Price Database is easy to use and provides discrete price research, allowing you to assess how much a work of art is worth before buying or selling.

7. How can I estimate the price of artworks with the Price Database?

    The Price Database contains over 8 million color-illustrated Fine Art, Design, and Decorative Art lots with complete lot descriptions, giving you a comprehensive set of comparable lots that provide a clear overview of the global art market.

8. I am an art collector/antiques dealer/professional; which subscription should I pick?

    As a professional, you may require continuous access to the Price Database.

    The Price Database Fine Art offers an Individual Rollover subscription, which gives you access to 10 searches per month. With our online annual subscriptions (Expert, Appraiser, or Specialist), you have the freedom to choose when to use your searches throughout the year. Should you need to do more research, we are happy to provide you with subscriptions for over 1,000 searches per year, tailored to your needs.

    The Price Database Decorative Art monthly subscription will give you monthly access to unlimited searches, auto-renewing every 30 days. If you require more frequent research, an upgrade to the Price Database Decorative Art annual subscription is an easy and cost-effective transition.

9. I only need to do a few searches; do I need to purchase a whole subscription?

    We offer flexible subscription options for you to try.

    Subscribers to the Price Database Fine Art and Design may choose the One Day Pass or the Individual Rollover plan, which can be canceled or upgraded at any time.

    Subscribers to the Price Database Decorative Art may choose a monthly or annual plan, which automatically renew and may be canceled at any time.

10. What constitutes a search?

    In the Price Database Fine Art and Design, once you enter all your search criteria on the search screen and click "View First 100 Results," it is considered a search. Your initial search will display up to 100 results per page; any time you click to view the next 100 results, it is also considered a search.

    All searches in the Price Database Decorative Art are unlimited.

11. What does "Rollover" in the Individual Rollover subscription mean?

    The Individual Rollover subscription is for subscribers to the Price Database Fine Art and Design, which gives you access to 10 searches per month. If you use four searches one month, the remaining six searches will carry over—or roll over—to the next month’s total searches. You can roll over a maximum of 10 unused searches (for a total of 20 searches on your Individual Rollover subscription) each month.

12. Can I keep any unused searches when my annual subscription renews?

    Unused searches do not roll over when annual subscriptions renew. Rollover searches apply only to the monthly Individual Rollover subscription for the Price Database Fine Art and Design.

13. What payment methods are available?

    Online subscriptions can be purchased by credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
