Biography
Edmund de Waal is a contemporary British ceramicist and author. He was known for both his large-scale installations of pottery and his two books The Hare with Amber Eyes (2010) and The White Road (2015). “Almost everything to do with my pieces is about slowing down,” de Waal has said. “Amid the enchantment is the attempt to slow things down.” Born on September 10, 1964, in Nottingham, United Kingdom, the artist has been creating ceramics since childhood. He later studied under the master ceramicist Geoffrey Whiting at the King’s School in Canterbury. The artist finished his academic education at Cambridge University, where he graduated with honors in 1986. De Waal currently lives and works in London, United Kingdom. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.
