Surrealism

Originating with André Breton’s Manifeste du surréalisme, Surrealism was an intellectual and artistic movement deeply influenced by the writings of Sigmund Freud. Surrealists championed unconventional techniques to elucidate unconscious processes, and created compositions that were often chaotic, incongruous, and heavily symbolic.
