Anne Packard

(American, born 1933)

Anne Packard is an American artist best known for her sparse, atmospheric seascape paintings. Throughout her practice, her work frequently depicts recurring imagery and themes, such as a solitary rowboat against an expanse of blue water and sky. Born in 1933 in Hyde Park, NY, Packard came from a family of artists, spanning generations back to her grandfather and prominent Romantic Impressionist Max Bohm. She studied at Bard College in New York, and later apprenticed under Philip Malicoat after moving to Provincetown, MA in the 1970s. Packard's work has been regionally celebrated throughout her prolific career, and has been the subject of exhibitions at spaces such as The Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA, and the Walter Cunningham Gallery in Boston. Currently living and working in Provincetown, MA, Packard states of her work: “My paintings have nothing to do with nature. It's something to do with forever going... the space behind the sky... the space behind the shadow."
