About This Lot
From the artist's series "On This Earth", "Elephants Walking through Grass, Amboseli" is a paragon of wildlife photography and is one of the artist's most desirable images. Brandt photographed East African wildlife where he has spent nearly 20 years photographing disappearing animal populations using a medium-format camera. Nick Brandt photographed the herd of elephants at a close range, which required hours of observation. Here, he captures a heard of elephants lead by a forty-four year old matriarch named Marianna, who was killed by poachers just the following year.
