    About This Lot

Vik Muniz's Burning Standard, after Ed Ruscha (Pictures of Cars) is one of three variations of the 1960s gas station created by the artist. In this variation, fire represented by gnarled metal, laps at the left side of the structure as well as the sign. From his Pictures of Cars series, here Muniz pays homage to the enduring influence of both pop art master Ed Ruscha and California car culture.

Vik Muniz (Brazilian, b. 1961) was born in São Paulo and began his career as a sculptor before turning his attention to photography and conceptual artworks.
